Black culture is the beacon of American society. For decades, Black culture has undoubtedly continued to set trends and influence creators all over the world in their designs and ideas. Just take a look at instagram. Influencers have transformed their bodies to take on the shape of those born with natural curves. Hairstyles such as the afro, tight curls, and laid edges have taken full swing. And nails have reached lengths longer than you can imagine. All of these trends derive from the aesthetic of the Black woman. An unapologetic aesthetic that will continue to defy the standards of beauty held by those who remain inside the box. Today, and everyday forward, let’s celebrate, support, and be conscious of all that the Black community has to offer the world. I’ve put together a list below of some of my favorite and also some new brands that deserve our love. I’ve highlighted a product from each brand and included some information about the brand’s mission and philosophy. Let’s honor the Black community for their contributions and give them the support they deserve, now and always.
B. Simone Beauty
Do you remember those roll on lip glosses we all used to buy from the 99 cents store when we were young? This brand reminds me of that, but on another level. B. Simone Beauty is known for their luscious lip glosses that are pretty much always out of stock because they’re so damn popular! The brand offers an extensive line of lip products including glosses, liquid lipsticks and pencils. Their products are highly-pigmented, long wearing and vegan and cruelty free!
Clean beauty for the forgotten shades; that’s the slogan you’ll see when you visit Range Beauty’s website. This brand was created with diversity and skin integrity in mind. Their products were formed to accommodate people of all shades, skin types, and genders who want affordable products without sacrificing high quality ingredients. Created with a conscious mind, this brand truly deserves our love!
The sun is hitting hard this summer and so is Katonya Breaux, founder of Unsun Cosmetics. Frustrated with the lack of sun protection options available for women of color, Breaux decided to launch a brand that provides clean, no-residue options for the consumer while keeping kind to the environment. The tinted sunscreen (pictured above) provides a layer of protection while evening the skin tone for a flawless natural look. I’ve used this product myself and it’s one of my summer essentials!
Colored Raine Cosmetics
Coloured Raine isn’t new to the beauty industry. This brand has been around since 2013 and I distinctly remember it being one of the first high quality brands I’ve worked with. NikkeTutorials even featured this brand on her Youtube several times! It’s now 2020 and Coloured Raine continues to provide a full range of high quality products at an affordable price. The products that stand out most to me are their highly pigmented eyeshadows and liquid lips. Brand owner Loraine R. Dowdy, a Brooklyn born woman of Caribbean descent, really emphasizes the power of color of diversity through her brand and I’m all for it! Oh, and they’re cruelty free!
Pronounced OMA (uh-mah), which means beautiful, UOMA Beauty represents a tribe of inclusivity and diversity. You’ll notice that the brand is crafted with a conscious mind and their message is reflected throughout all of their products. Nigerian born, Sharon Chuter, founder of UOMA Beauty, made a collection of products that are innovative, high quality, and suitable for all skin tones. UOMA beauty’s success has led it to be sold at large retailers like Ulta and even featured by popular influencers such as Patrick Starrr. Well done Sharon Chuter!
Cashmere Nicole, CEO and Founder of Beauty Bakerie is the pinnacle of Black-Owned Businesses. Her journey to success was not an easy one and she isn’t shy about sharing her plight with the world. Becoming a mother at 16, battling breast cancer and navigating the world of business (including its failures), has only pushed her to create the beauty empire she has today. This brand is the product of hard work, dedication, and a whole lotta love. Beauty Bakerie’s products are cruelty free, smudge free, and offer a large range of shades to suit every skin tone. And to top it all off, every purchase makes an impact in the lives of underprivileged children around the world through the Sugar Homes project, an organization dedicated to providing qualified orphanages with funds and supplies. What a leader!

Bold and proud are the best words to describe this powerful, unapologetic brand. Harnessing the beauty and history of ancient African Kingdoms, Juvia’s Place creates some of the most vibrant, rich, and highly pigmented products available on the market. They combine the regal traditions of African heritage with innovative formulas designed to provide maximum pigmentation. The success of this brand has led it to be sold in large retailers such as Ulta Beauty and is noticed by many of the world’s most popular influencers. If you haven’t tried them out, what are you waiting for?
If you love your nudes, you’ll appreciate this brand. Mented Cosmetics was created when founders, KJ Miller and Amanda Johnson struggled to find the perfect nude lipstick for their skin tones. They created a line of lip, complexion, and nail products that suit every skin tone so no one is left behind. They’re products are packed with pigment and they’re vegan, paraben free, and cruelty free!
AJ Crimson Beauty
Makeup artists, listen up! If you’ve been in the game for a while, you’ve probably already heard of this brand and that’s because of the amazingly versatile products that have been dominating the kits of celebrity makeup artists for the past decade. If you’re just starting out, it’s a great brand to consider adding to your kit because of the brand offers a wide variety of shades and skin tones that are often missed by other top brands. Not only are the products inclusive but they are engineered to be versatile and long wearing.
